Shifting Grounds: The Garden

9 weeks in Lithuania during spring, staying next to a building site, the wish emerged to make the space a little greener amongst all the rubble and dust. Taking off the top layer, relocating it along the white markation pillar. An act of cultivation. Hitting building rubble as soon as the spade touches the soil. A need to put seeds into the soil and observe the following randomness. The garden, a meeting place, ‘Academia’ originally describing an olive grove. Most plants here are edible. I leave before the harvest. When thinking about characteristiscs of our time, I’d say it mainly deals with the current state and high speed. A garden is a combination of current pleasure, effort and struggle and a future anticipation.
